The town of São João do Estoril is one of the most unusual and interesting around Cascais. In the beginning of the twentieth century, the Portuguese magazine “Century” described this place as a “small village, drown in comfortable shades of the trees, and especially attractive to Lisbon rich bourgeoisie.” During salazarism, this was where the Prime Minister Antonio Salazar had a summer house, and now this city offers a well developed infrastructure and the excellent beaches Poça and Azarujinha, awarded the highest European quality assurance “Blue Flag”.
